SREYASH FOUNDATION
Together, we can support research and raise awareness to find cure for pediatric Arteriovenous Malformation, also known as AVM.
Our Story
We lost our beloved son, Sreyash, to Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) — a rare condition that often remains undetected until it’s too late. In our search for answers, we connected with Dr. XX at UCSF, whose groundbreaking research on the genetic roots of AVM offers hope for earlier detection and life-saving treatments.
What began as private fundraising in 2022 has grown into this foundation. Through it, we honor Sreyash’s life by supporting critical research, raising awareness, and standing beside families on this difficult journey. Our mission is simple: to bring hope, answers, and a brighter future to children affected by AVM.
About AVM
An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare tangle of blood vessels in the brain where arteries connect directly to veins instead of flowing normally. Because these vessels are weak, they can burst unexpectedly, causing bleeding in the brain. This can lead to headaches, seizures, neurological problems, or even death.
AVMs are usually present from birth but often show no symptoms until a sudden bleed occurs. About 2–3% of AVMs rupture each year, and when they do, studies show that roughly 10–15% of patients may not survive. Over the long term, if untreated, AVMs can carry serious risks for both life and brain function.
Treatment depends on the AVM’s size and location and may include surgery, focused radiation, or minimally invasive procedures. Early detection is critical, which is why research and awareness are so important — they give children the best chance to stay safe and healthy.
Sreyash Foundation
Mission
At Sreyash Foundation, Our mission is to advance critical research on pediatric Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), enabling earlier detection, innovative treatments, and improved outcomes. We are committed to raising awareness through education,
community engagement, and fundraising initiatives while offering essential support to families navigating the challenges of AVM. We are dedicated to honoring Sreyash’s memory my transforming grief into impactful action, creating a legacy of hope and healing for countless others.
Our Initiatives
We are committed to various initiatives aimed at research funding and support for families facing challenges due to pediatric AVM. Explore how your involvement can make a real difference.
Research
Our research initiatives focus on critical studies related to pediatric AVM, aiming to uncover early diagnosis, effective treatments and potentially life-saving solutions for affected children. In our search for answers, we met Dr. Nalin Gupta, Chief of Pediatric Neurological Surgery at UCSF, who is leading groundbreaking research to uncover the genetic underpinnings of AVM. This work, among other studies at UCSF, could revolutionize screening for the condition. Our efforts will contribute to a future where more children at risk are identified sooner – before a hemorrhage ever occurs. and treated before a crisis occurs. We aim to support this research through fundraising and close collaboration with UCSF and other organizations supporting AVM research.
Community Support
We understand the immense stress and financial strain that emergency medical crises place on families. Our foundation will serve as a vital resource, offering direct financial assistance and guiding families impacted by AVM for essential treatment options. This support will alleviate immediate burdens, allowing families to focus on recovery and healing, and fostering a stronger, more resilient community
Breakdown of where funds are going: In 2022 & 2023, we raised upto $30,000 dollars. These funds were equally split between research support for Dr. Nalin Gupta’s team and Oakland PICU to support doctors and nurses in palliative care. Our goal is to raise $100,000 towards clinical research.
